March 5 marks another important date for our 2016 presidential candidates. Democrats reach out to voters in the primaries and caucuses of Kansas, Louisiana, and Nebraska; while Republicans seek support in Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Maine.
So, who won?
On the Republican side, Ted Cruz stuns the nation with a large victory in Kansas with 48% support, and then Maine with 46%. Donald Trump takes the Kentucky GOP caucus with nearly 35% of the vote, followed by Cruz with 31%. Trump also won the key state of Louisiana. (POLITICO)
The Democrats are also in a close battle. Bernie Sanders, gaining momentum, wins Kansas with nearly 70% in votes and Nebraska with 55%. Hillary Clinton takes Louisiana with almost 71%. (POLITICO)
While these candidates are preparing for their big wins, Republicans Marco Rubio and John Kasich could not achieve victory in any Super Saturday states tonight. They must keep up if they don’t want to fall too far behind.
Maine Democrats will caucus on Sunday, March 6th. The race for the White House is now more unexpected and exciting than ever before.
