“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
After Donald Trump uttered those offensive words in June, NBC rightly distanced itself from Trump’s Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. Now NBC has invited The Donald to host Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Allowing Trump on SNL not only provides him with more exposure, but also normalizes his bigotry. If an American institution like Saturday Night Live welcomes someone like Donald Trump on the show, they are in essence perpetuating hateful views as acceptable and mainstream.
We cannot let this stand. Trump has characterized our community as violent criminals, leading to a rise in violence towards Latinos. Racism is not funny and those who advocate it have no place on SNL, and most importantly in the White House.
We’re asking all of our supporters to remind SNL Executive Producer Lorne Michaels that #RacismIsntFunny. We need you to take to SNL’s Facebook page, Twitter, etc. and tell the show’s executives you refuse to watch a show that gives hate a platform.
